FOODSHARING MOSCOW
KG OF FOOD SAVED IN TOTAL
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Foodsharing Moscow project was founded by activists in the summer of 2015 based on the model of Germany's foodsharing.de project. Foodsharing Moscow adapted the European practical experience to Russian realities.
To create such an initiative, the founders carefully studied the theoretical basis of German foodsharing, got acquainted with studies on food losses and means of tackling them in different countries, also talked with restaurateurs and representatives of the retail business in Russia.

The organizers and coordinators of the project establish agreements with organizations that have unsold, but still safe for consumption groceries or prepared dishes. At the appointed time, the volunteers come for food and check whether it is still OK. Most of the food is delivered directly to large families, senior sitezens and the disabled or to charity funds, but volunteers can also keep a portion of it to themselves.

Distribution of products occurs immediately, without intermediate storage points. Free tools and the organization's own software are used for coordination. A number of digital tools have been developed by the organization – an internal platform for managing a database of volunteers and donors, a script to select the closest volunteers by calculating travel time, etc.
